The Edisto River is thought to be the Longest Free Flowing blackwater river in the world.

It's headwaters begin in the Upper Central part of the state, and it slowly meanders toward the sea.

A Section known as the Edisto River Canoe and Kayak Trail is very popular, however dangerous at various water levels.

We highly recommend that the Edisto River outside the ACE Basin area, be strictly paddled with Experienced Guides.

The Edisto River within the ACE Basin area is tranquil, and peaceful as is the rest of the basin.  Plantations such as Hope, and Willtown Bluff are highlights of this river.

Various landings exist, and tide charts should be referenced when planning an outing.

The Edisto is the wider of the three rivers forming the ACE Basin.  Often you will find motorboat traffic, wind, tide, and sun are conditions you'll need to contend with.

Penny Creek is a beautiful canopied section to paddle.

There are no limitations of plants and animals on the Edisto, or any part of the ACE Basin.  'GATORS', Osprey, Eagles, Egrets, and More!!

Remember, Leave No Trace, Tread Lightly, and Respect to ALL In The ACE!

  A Few Points....

  • Most of the area is Privately Owned... Be Aware that Trespassing is Punishable!

  • Kindly paddle quietly along the opposite side of the river as you pass a fisherman.

  • Always wear your lifejacket.

  • Always carry proper Safety Equipment.

  • Plan an Emergency course of action and leave Trip Plan with an Outfitter or friend.

  • Prepare for changing weather conditions.

  • Always leave nature in it's place.

  • Don't feed the wildlife.

  • 911 works in this area.
